212040520 – Research Methodology
Course Description:
This course is to support students’ knowledge in the designation and selection of problems in society and industry according to the chosen field of interest; they can design solutions, compile research proposals along with the steps, process data and discussions, and compile articles and publish them through seminars and/or journals. This course will discuss problems in society and industry to design solutions by compiling research proposals that refer to the latest references, designing data collection, processing, and research discussions, and then compiling them in reports and articles that are published. The learning method in this course is carried out centered on students (SCL) and based on chemical engineering cases/industrial cases (Case-based learning)/chemical engineering assignment projects (project-based learning)/research activities (research-based method)/industry activities (industry-based method). Characteristics of Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL) are achieved effectively and encourage the formation of a comprehensive (holistic) mindset in the fields of energy, food, and pharmaceutical environments (ELPASI) to solve problems in these fields (contextual).
Course Outline:
- Explaining research in general and Problem Identification for compiling research topics, identifying case examples in society and industry, determining determinants of solving research problems
- Designing solutions to problems in society and industry by compiling research steps (background, formulating problems, compiling objectives, and determining research benefits). Compiling research methodology: materials, tools, operating conditions, research variables, analysis of raw materials and products, compiling research results, and discussions by identifying research results. Designing solutions by searching and selecting library sources, compiling backgrounds and research reviews from relevant literature, and determining research methodology. Compiling a complete thesis proposal and presenting it
- Designing research implementation: preparation of tools and preparation of raw materials. Designing preliminary experiments and determining the type of analysis of raw materials and products. Designing data collection and processing, processing data in tables and graphs, and providing explanations of tables and graphs related to phenomena that occur referring to references. Assignment of presentation of a complete thesis proposal
- Compiling a draft article in the form of a review and/or research article that meets the requirements of scientific writing, and can be accessed by the academic community through scientific publications. Presenting draft review articles in lecture forums accommodating inputs and communicating ideas and information in the scientific field effectively through various forms of media to the academic community.
