212040920 – Thermodynamics I
Course Description:
This course aims to improve students’ ability in developing concepts/theories in the field of chemical engineering. The main studies include: The 1st law of thermodynamics and its related equations, volumetric properties of pure fluids, heat effects, thermodynamic laws, thermodynamic properties of fluids, two-phase systems and general equations for gases. The learning method in this course is carried out centered on students (student center learning) and based on chemical engineering cases (Case-based learning). Graduate learning outcomes are achieved effectively and encourage the formation of a comprehensive (holistic) mindset in chemical engineering to solve problems in the field (contextual). The assessment process is carried out with written test assessments, in the form of assignments, competency exams (UK), mid-term exams and final exams according to the rubric provided.
Course Outline:
- The 1st law of thermodynamics and its related equations
- Volumetric properties of pure fluids and thermodynamic heat effects
- The 2nd law of thermodynamics and thermodynamic properties of fluids
- Two-phase systems and the general equation for gases
