Course Description:

This course aims to teach the basics of calculations in chemical engineering, including Dimensions and units, dimensional analysis and engineering similarity, process quantities, mass balances, and material flows. Lectures are conducted with a student-centered learning approach. Competency-based assessments include active participation, a portfolio of assignments, and competency exams.

1. Dimensions and units, process quantities, and basic stoichiometry
2. Preparation and solution of mass balance equations in processes without chemical reactions
3. Preparation and solution of mass balance equations in processes involving chemical reactions
4. Several types of material flows (recycle, bypass, purge, make up)
